Use up to 60% less energy by boiling water in a microwave rather than on an electric stovetop.
When you do need to use the stovetop make sure the pot or pan, that you are using, fully covers the heating element.
A 6" pan on an 8" element translates to an energy waste of 40%.

This may be a "frugal" tip, but not necessarily a healthy one considering the controversy over microwave and the radiation it emits. We don't own, nor do I want, a microwave.
Actually we've never used a microwave either, although two of our homes had them built-in. The homes we built ourself did not. We use ours as a "tea cabinet" since we like herbal teas and I have folks over quite often for 'tea parties' so it's a great conversation piece to open it up and let folks choose their tea while they find out why we don't use a microwave.
The tips were keyed in and obviously not pondered. I had the same feeling when it came across my desktop, so we'll leave these comments for others to see (kinda like friends seeing the tea chest - as an educational tool).
Here's a link for more information on the dangers of microwaves.
